Several people have enquired about the glass horseshoes, which are perfect as a keepsake for special anniversaries.

I am able to personalise them to a certain extent. The main restriction is the font size, so it is easier to have set phrases such as Ruby Wedding or Golden Anniversary, as shown here. (Yes, I have shamelessly used the beautiful spring flowers where I work as a backdrop. They were too nice not to share…)

The words are subtle, so while they can easily be seen, they are not so glaring that the horseshoe needs to be put away after the event. It is something that the recipient can leave on display if they wish.

If you require dates or names, please get in touch to enquire & I will let you know what is possible. Sometimes it’s not the length of the name that is the sticking point, but the loops & curves of the letters. Some will go off the edge of the curve of the horseshoe & they won’t sit right.

The wording is created using transfers. The same type that are used on ceramic mugs. The transfers sink into the glass when it is fused, so they cannot be rubbed or picked off. Flower colours are reasonably flexible & will be similar to the designs shown here, although if you have a preference for a specific flower it is worth asking whether it can be created.

Starting at £30 for a commission, the price will depend on what is required. For personalised pieces, I will require a non-refundable deposit as I cannot remove dates or names from the glass once it has been fused.

The horseshoe is approx 13cm/5” at its widest part & similar in height. Each horseshoe has to be purchased from a specialist shape cutter & is then decorated by me & fired in my kiln. The transfer wording is applied to the fired horseshoe & it is fired again on a different setting to fuse the transfer into the glass. Each firing takes approximately 12 hours in the kiln, followed by a similar length of time to cool at a controlled speed. This annealing process makes the glass more stable.

I will require a month’s notice for commissioned horseshoes to allow time for decoration, decal application & drying time plus the kiln firings.
